County Line UMC

The mission of County Line UMC is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We seek to accomplish this by extending God's love in and to the community while living, loving, and growing in Christ.

County Line UMC is located in the northwest corner of Cobb county. The community has changed significantly in the 145 years that County Line UMC has existed. Farmlands have been converted to subdivisions, and corner stores have been replaced by a large array of retail stores. This congregation continues to reach out to those who are in need of assistance, and most guests report on the warm hospitality that they received when visiting. While it is a small church in comparison to the mega-churches surrounding it, County Line is large enough to provide activities and events that smaller churches are unable to offer.

Unique Opportunities in Ministry

County Line UMC has a Preschool/Mother's Morning Out program that has nearly a 100 kids enrolled. Add to that figure nearly 75 Boys Scouts and Cub Scouts and you will discover a tremendous pool of families that the church is struggling to form relationships with. Figuring out how to connect to these families is the church's greatest challenge.

The church is using Matthew 25:31-40 as its mission focus. County Line is searching for ways to help combat hunger: it collects food for the MUST ministries food bank, saves its change to give to organizations like St. Andrews ministries, and holds a STOP HUNGER NOW packaging event in the late spring or early summer. The church also has a large number of Emergency Responding Team members, and church members annually visit the Red Bird Missionary Conference in order to assist in ministry to the poor.

Meeting the Five Areas of Ministry

Administration: The student will have oversight of Youth and Children's activities. In addition, there are opportunities to learn about trust issues and handling conflict.

Liturgy (Worship and Preaching): The student would be allowed to assist and lead various parts of the worship service, including baptisms and holy communion. The worship style of County Line UMC is primarily traditional. Opportunities to preach can be arranged.

Mission and Outreach: The student will have the opportunity to help the church continue to reach out to those who are in need. The church is also looking to expand its mission focus to other countries by sending mission teams. Finally, County Line wants to maintain its ERT training in case there is an emergency that requires work teams.

Pastoral Calling and Congregational Care: County Line UMC has a great group of ladies that visit the shut-ins. Opportunities to join them on Tuesdays would be available to the student. The church does not have a visitation team for worship guests, so there is an opportunity to build one. The student will be able to prepare for provisional status with a member of the North Georgia Conference's Board of Ordained Ministry.

Teaching: The church does not have many Bible study groups that meet routinely, so the opportunity to lead a study is definitely available to the student. Another opportunity for teaching would be under the Sunday school program.
