Buford First United Methodist Church

S.H.I.N.E.  Serve. Host. Inspire. Nurture. Educate. To shine the light of Jesus so that children, youth and adults grow in the knowledge and love of God through missions, evangelism, worship, nurture and Christian education. Matthew 5:16

Buford First is a 850-member church, with traditional worship and an average of 300-plus people attending worship. The congregation is made up of all ages and has a heart for missions. The congregation is very involved in the local community and in the international community. The church provides sack lunches for underserved children in the community each Saturday and provides other resources. The church has a community garden for those in need. All persons are welcome in the church.

Unique Opportunities in Ministry

The church is in the process of building a new Christian Life Center and renovation of the historic 1926 sanctuary. The church is also in the heart of a small downtown area that has recently been revitalized. Given these changes, this is an exciting time to work at Buford First, allowing the student to be involved with the building program. Preaching and teaching opportunities are also available. The student would be given great opportunities to work with youth ministry. The pastor works closely with the local school board and city council, serving as the volunteer chaplain for commission meetings. The student would have the chance to work with the pastor and learn about community and church dynamics.
