Unique Opportunities for Ministry

A few opportunites to serve include involvement in the active recovery ministry and involvement in the young adults and child development center. In addition to providing many opportunities within all five areas of ministry, the church offers unique ministry to men and women in recovery. This program serves several hundred people each week through ministries that help to meet the spiritual and physical needs of people.

Brookhaven UMC engages in outreach through ministry to men and women in recovery as well as a clothes closet, an angel tree, Habitat builds and the children's ministries.

Five Areas of Ministry

Administration: Students will have the opportunity to engage in the budgeting process, attend meetings and learn about stewardship.

Liturgy (Worship and Preaching): Students will be given the opportunity to lead worship according to their interests and abilities, including regular participation as liturgist, music opportunities and opportunities to be involved in the planning process for worship, both short- and long-term. Students will have the opportunity to preach at least once during the regular 11 am service, with additional opportunities available according to his/her interests and desires.

Mission and Outreach: Students will be able to engage in ministry to men and women in recovery programs, including assistance with the clothes closet, regular snacks and meal programs, participation in worship and study, and other opportunities to serve with men and women in need. Students can also engage with Brookhaven's habitat build, angel tree and evangelism ministries.

Pastoral Calling and Congregational Care: Students will have the opportunity to assist in pastoral care for a diverse congregation, including communion steward ministry, home and hospital visitation, and assistance as desired with funerals.

Teaching: Students will be able to teach Bible studies and Sunday school for a variety of ages. Brookhaven recenly implemented a small group structure that students can be involved in. The church's children's ministry is growing and will greatly benefit from the leadership of Candler students.
