House of the Rock

House of the Rock

Be the change. Be the Gospel.

House of the Rock is Word and Sacrament in the language of the people of Midtown. As Christ’s body in the world, the church supports its worship with service. Students are invited to serve every day of the week in food for homeless and other ministries. The church provides an alternative worship experience in the heart of midtown. Students are invited to come as they are, to be open to worship and to be in a counter culture space and time. Students are invited to bring their brokenness, their doubt, their need for direction, for forgiveness and for grace. Students are invited to come to hear Good News.

Unique Opportunities in Ministry

The church is full of unique opportunities. House of the Rock is about the most unusual church of which any of its members have ever been a part. Opportunities for students to become involved in include: Beer and Hymns, Pub Theology, Food Ministry, walking the city with sandwiches, faith development, Red Door Concerts, and more.

The church lives to serve. It's who they are. They have a servant mindset. Worship on Sunday isn't the main focus, being involved in the community and making a difference in the world is. The church is intent on meeting people where they are and speaking their language is a part of serving.

Meeting the Five Areas of Ministry

Administration: There are plenty of opportunities to engage in the staff meetings, take on a role specific to your gifts, and make the ministry that God has called each student to do come to life.

Liturgy (Worship and Preaching): The church will make a place for the student to participate and lead in all parts of worship they are called to. The church will make opportunities for the student to preach on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Mission and Outreach: The church is a mission development and plans to always be one. The church has an opportunity for the student to help develop where God is calling the church to go.

Pastoral Calling and Congregational Care: Pastoral care is an important part of the ministry and the student will be immersed in it. The student must know it's different in this particular context. Rather than doing home bound visits, the student will be listening to people talk through being hurt by the church over a beer.

Teaching: The church has a class that the student can be a part of.
