Scholarships available to students enrolled in the Master of Divinity Program are listed below. Please note that scholarships marked with an asterisk (*) have separate scholarship applications.
Robert W. Woodruff Fellowships in Theology and Ministry
These fellowships for full-time MDiv students cover tuition and fees up to eighty credit hours (two full-time semesters for three academic years) and provide an additional $5,000 per year for related educational expenses. Each academic year up to six Woodruff Fellowships are awarded to first-year students. Candidates must demonstrate qualities of forceful and unselfish character; intellectual achievement; impressive skills in communication; significant leadership and creativity in school, church, or community; and clear potential for enriching the lives of their contemporaries at Emory University. Typically, applicants will have a 3.50 minimum cumulative grade point average or higher from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program. Candidates must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 to apply. Renewal of the award for the second and third years requires maintenance of at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. The deadline for receipt of Woodruff Fellowship applications is February 1. To be considered for the Woodruff Fellowship, applicants must be admitted to the MDiv program by February 1.

This scholarship for full-time MDiv students cover tuition and fees for three academic years and provides a stipend each year for related educational expenses. Renewal of the award for the second and third years requires maintenance of at least 3.30 cumulative grade point average. The Pitts Scholarship competition is open to persons preparing for ministry in the United Methodist Church as deacons or elders. Qualified students must demonstrate academic ability and promise for ministry as a deacon or elder. To be eligible, students must have begun the candidacy process in the United Methodist Church. Typically, applicants will have a 3.50 minimum cumulative grade point average from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program. Pitts Scholarships are limited to students from the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church. The deadline for the receipt of Pitts Scholarship applications is March 1. To be considered for the Pitts Scholarships, applicants must be admitted to the MDiv program by March 1.

Established through the vision and generosity of Mrs. Mary Goss Hardin, layperson, friend, and benefactor, the Hardin Scholarship provides support for full-time United Methodist students preparing for ordained ministry as elders in the North Alabama Annual Conference. These full-tuition awards are renewable upon maintenance of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30. Review of Hardin Scholarship applications begins March 1.

The Quenelle Scholarships were established by Mrs. Olive Quenelle of Johnson City, Tennessee, to support full-time United Methodist students from the Holston Annual Conference who are preparing for pastoral ministry. The Sherman Scholarship Fund was established by Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Sherman of Jacksonville, Florida. This fund provides assistance to United Methodist students who demonstrate academic ability and commitment to a biblically based, evangelical ministry and who are preparing for ministry as pastors of local congregations. Preference will be given to full-time students. These full-tuition awards are renewable upon maintenance of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75. Applicants must have begun the candidacy process in the United Methodist Church. Students who qualify receive a Sherman Scholarship covering full tuition (70 percent from the Sherman Endowment and 30 percent from other Candler funds). A $1,500 scholarship from the students conference and a $1,600 scholarship from the students local church or district are encouraged, with expected minimum contributions of $1,200 and $1,400, respectively. (United Methodist annual conference funds may be limited to certified candidates for ministry.) Qualified students from the Florida Conference are given preference for Sherman Scholarships, although all qualified United Methodist students from other conferences are encouraged to apply. I. and Emma Jean McDonald of Tylertown, Mississippi, the McDonald Scholarship provides assistance to full-time United Methodist students from Mississippi who demonstrate promise for ministry, academic ability, and commitment to the pastorate of local congregations. These full-tuition awards are renewable upon maintenance of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75. Applicants must have begun the candidacy process in the Mississippi Annual Conference. This full-tuition, matching funds scholarship provides support in a manner similar to the Sherman Scholarship, as outlined above. Preference will be given to applications received by March 1.

Qualified full-time United Methodist students from Kansas and Missouri must demonstrate promise for ministry, academic ability, and commitment to the pastorate of local congregations. Applicants must have begun the candidacy process in the Kansas East, Kansas West, or Missouri Annual Conferences. Christian Education Scholarship
The Christian Education Scholarship provides 75 percent tuition assistance to full-time United Methodist students enrolled in the MDiv program and preparing for the vocation of Christian education. A separate application is not required. Review is based on materials submitted for admission to the degree program. Scholarship review begins March 1.
A limited number of full-tuition Honor Scholarships are available on a competitive basis to full-time students entering the MDiv program with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50. Renewal of the awards for the second and third years requires maintenance of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30. A separate application is not required. Review is based on materials submitted for admission to the MDiv program. Scholarship review begins March 1.
The Sims Garrett Scholarships were established by Mr. Garrett, a 1933 graduate of Emory College, to support full-time students preparing for pulpit ministries. These full-tuition awards are renewable upon maintenance of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30. A separate application is not required. Review is based on materials submitted for admission to the MDiv program. Scholarship review begins March 1.
These 75 percent tuition awards are available on a competitive basis for full-time students entering the MDiv program with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50. Renewal of the award for the second and third years at Candler requires maintenance of at least a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30. A separate application is not required. Review is based on materials submitted for admission to the MDiv program. Scholarship review begins March 1.
Scholarships covering 75 percent of tuition are available to full-time students beginning the MDiv program whose presence in the school will promote diversity in the student body and in the ministry. Past community contributions and potential for ministerial leadership, as well as the academic capabilities of applicants, will be considered when reviewing applicants for awards. Renewal of the award for the second and third years at Candler requires maintenance of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75. A separate application is not required. Review is based on materials submitted for admission to the MDiv program. Scholarship review begins March 1.
A limited number of scholarships covering 75 percent of tuition are available to full-time Baptist students studying in the MDiv program. Based on potential excellence in ministry, these awards are made possible by donations from Baptist individuals, churches, and organizations, as well as by matching funds from Candler. Most recipients of these scholarships are considered to be Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Leadership Scholars. Participation in this program is expected of scholarship recipients. Renewal of the award for the second and third years at Candler requires maintenance of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. A separate application is not required. Review is based on materials submitted for admission to the degree program. Scholarship review begins March 1.
Candler Grants are awarded to incoming MDiv students on the basis of merit, need, and availability of funds. A separate application is not required. Review is based on materials submitted for admission to the MDiv program and the FAFSA.
A limited number of scholarships are available to MDiv students who are citizens of countries outside the United States. A separate application is not required. Review is based on materials submitted for admission to the degree program.
