Religious Education
Our Mission
Candler School of Tehology's Religious Education program seeks to equip leaders of the educational mission of the church in a pluralistic and changing world to:
- lead congregations in building up and revitalizing educational ministries for transmitting, interpreting, and renewing their faith traditions and practices
- teach in congregations and schools to empower persons for transformative ministries
- nurture the development of faith and vocation in children, youth and adults
- be agents of religious meaning in community dialogues on education for public life
Certificate in Religious Education Ministries
Students in both the Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies degree programs may construct a concentration of courses and contextual education experiences leading to certification in one of the sub-areas to fulfill their goals of educational leadership in congregations, church agencies, and schools. Center for Ecumenical and Multicultural Education
The resource center maintains a collection of educational resources for a range of culturally specific and cross cultural settings in churches and schools.
Youth Theological Initiative
The Youth Theological Initiative advances theological education with adolescents through:
- a summer theological academy for rising high school seniors
- consultation with local, regional, and national leaders in youth ministry
- research into the theological practices of youth
- courses in youth ministry and youth in culture
