The Spring 2008 Lay Theology Institute (LTI) will host “Images of Christ: What Did Jesus Look Like and Does It Matter?” This course will be led by Dr. M. Thomas Thangaraj, D.W. and Ruth Brooks Associate Professor of World Christianity, one of Candler and LTI’s most popular and beloved instructors. This course aims to recognize, appreciate, and evaluate the plurality of images of Christ present in world Christianity, including feminist, womanist, African-American, and emerging world perspectives. Theological writings, hymns, poems, paintings, sculptures, and films from around the world are used in this course to facilitate lecture and discussion.
Lectures will be held at Candler School of Theology on Emory University’s campus. Classes will be held in Bishops Hall Room 311 on Monday evenings, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., April 7 – May 5. The registration fee for this five-week event is $35.00. Registration fees are not refundable, but credit may be given toward future courses.
