Anglican Studies Certificate Program
The program in Anglican Studies is designed to support MDiv students preparing for ordination in the Anglican priesthood. Participation in the program requires that a student be a postulant or have the written permission of his or her bishop.
Certificate requirements include:
- one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (no credit)
- CE507R, Contextual Education for Anglican Students each semester (minimum of eight credits)
- CT501, Introduction to the History of Christian Thought (4 credits)
- CT502, Introduction to the History of Christian Thought II (4 credits)
- CT503, Systematic Theology (3 credits)
- HT669, History and Theology of Eucharist Worship (3 credits)
- HT671, British Theologians (2 credits)
- CH571, History, Prayer Book, and Polity of the Episcopal Church (2 credits)
- CA515, Pastoral Priesthood (2 credits)
- W622, W623, W624, Practicums in Liturgy: Services of Word and Baptism (1 credit), Eucharist (1 credit), Weddings, Funerals, and Services of Confirmation and Renewal (1 credit)
- ST631, Christian Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Renewal (3 credits) or RP651, Shame, Guilt, and Rites of Reconciliation (3 credits) or P617, Lectionary Preaching (3 credits)
- one course on a pre-Reformation theologian, theological movement, or doctrine such as HT609, Theology and Life in the Early Church (3 credits), HT623, Theology of Augustine (3 credits), or HT625, Theology of Aquinas (3 credits)
Interested students must complete an Application for Certificate Enrollment with the Candler registrar and secure the permission of the director.
